Tonto dikeh ex-husband, Olakunle Churchill, has revealed reasons why he gives scholarships to underprivileged students.
In an u interview with Saturday Beats, the businessman, who got married to actress Rosaline Meurer said, “Giving is a trait I got from my grandmother and my late dad. My late dad was a philanthropist and a man who cared for the nation. For me, being a philanthropist is like being a missionary. It’s like doing God’s work. We want to empower 500 students every year.
“At times, we don’t meet up to the target but it depends on what we have available because we are into different projects, as well. We give out scholarships yearly to primary, secondary and university students. I feel happy and fulfilled giving. I want to keep giving till I leave the face of the earth. As long as I am alive, I would continue, this is what God has sent me to do. My wife has been very supportive of my philanthropic causes. She is someone I have trained over the years; she was once my ambassador for ‘Mother and Child’. Now, she has to be part of everything I do. Once I am there, she has to be beside me.”
One of the beneficiaries of the foundation, Faith Nnajiofor, also recounted how she benefited from the Churchill Foundation. She said, “I was in 200 Level when I got the Churchill Foundation Scholarship. I studied Educational Foundation (Guidance and Counselling) at the University of Lagos. My school fees were settled from 300 Level to 400 Level. The scholarship came with the school fees and some departmental payments. I want to say thank you to Mr Churchill and I pray that God bless him beyond measure.”
