The National Association of Nigerian Students, South-West Zone, has praised Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State over the 25 per cent tuition fee reduction at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso.
This was contained in a statement issued in Ibadan on Wednesday by the South-West Coordinator of NANS, Mr Olatunji Adegboye.
The association in their commendation described the tuition fee reduction as a sign of commitment towards making education accessible and affordable, said it would enhance LAUTECH’s status.
According to the statement, the tuition fee reduction is a welcome development, not only to LAUTECH students but to the entire students in the South-West.
“The news about LAUTECH tuition fee reduction came at a time when the global economy is facing the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We acknowledge this decision of the government of Oyo State as a remarkable sign of commitment towards making education affordable to the masses in the state despite the economic challenges.
“The Oyo State Government should not stop at that but to further complement it with developmental projects on the campus, as well as provision of adequate training for the staff of the university,” NANS said.
The association implored other state governments in the South-West zone to come up with policies and actions that would enhance affordable quality education for the masses.
According to him, the South-West Zone is known to be the source of formal education in the country and the heritage must be sustained. (NAN)
