Some Twitter users have faulted the plan of Elon Musk to impose monthly $20 charges for verified users of the platform.
The plan came to light late Sunday when he revealed that the process of verification would be revamped.
Users of the platform have been pointing out that the monetization of the blue tick would propagate fake news amidst other concerns.
A tweep, Scott Nover, said, “Firing everyone, bashing his own employees, publishing their internal messages, charging for verification because he thinks it’s just a clout thing.
These are all quick ways to degrade the
company and the quality of the platform. Advertisers are going to leave very quickly.”
Andrew Wortman said, “So it isn’t so much ‘verification’ anymore as it is who has $20 bucks a month to spare to look more official, trustworthy, and reputable on Twitter. Blue checkmarks will be effectively rendered meaningless with this pay-to-play dumbassery.”
Former Kaduna governor aide, Salihu Tanko-Yakasai aka Dawusi, said “Almost 200k annually for a badge? Please carry your badge I no dey do again.”
Kara Swisher tweeted, “I would not pay a dime for verification. In fact, social media should pay its creators and treat them with respect, instead of unleashing knuckleheads on them.”
