A source within the Ministry of Labour has disclosed that the federal government has commenced plans to pay the Congress of University Academics (CONUA) their withheld salaries and rectify the half salaries paid to all lecturers under the newly registered union.
It came as a shock to lecturers under the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) when they were paid half salaries following the suspension of their eight-month strike.
The union subsequently decided to hold an emergency NEC to make a final decision on the development.
Speaking on the federal government’s plan to pay CONUA their withheld salaries, a source in the Ministry of Labour said: “The government will pay CONUA their withheld salaries; they wrote and it was proven that they didn’t join the strike.
“The minister has also approved it so yes, they will be paid.
