The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic(MAPOLY), has threatened to embark on strike on December 31st, if the school management refuses to pay their salaries.

According to the union, what worsen the matter  was when a Government official claimed in the public that the state Government was not aware of the financial plight of the school.

Acoording to the union, they were not been paid for three consecutive months and even part – time teaching staff claimed they remain unpaid for seven consecutive semesters.

This was revealed in a letter, that was signed by the ASUP chairman and the Secretary, Mr.Osufalujo Osifalujo Babatunde and Adegunle Tomisi, written to the rector and school management of the school dated of 28th December 2022.

“We therefore reiterate that Moshood Abiola Polytechnic is not a private entity, but an Ogun State Government owned institution; as such the state Government must rise ro take up her responsibility.

“Ours, is the only state in Nigeria where a public education is left to finance both ger recurrent and capital expenditure from its Internal Generated Revenue (IGR).”

Also the union said failure to grant this request may make it difficult for the union to continue to guarantee industrial harmony on campus.

It therefore urged the state Government to be alive to its financial obligation to the institution, through payment of monthly subvention to the polytechnic, saying MAPOLY is not a private institution to be left to survive on its own.
