Can we meet you?
I am Alhaji Musa Abeshin Aka Yar’adua, the president of Butcher Association Ijebu Igbo Chapter.
How have you been in this butcher business?
We thank God Almighty. This profession is a native one, I inherited it from Father. I did freedom in 1995, and since then, I have been on my own living fine.
On the 5th of September, 2022, I became the chairman of this association
What should we expect in your forthcoming anniversary?
By the grace of God, this is the first butcher anniversary in the history of Ijebu-Igbo. We are looking forward to achieving it in a utilized way to help bring civilization to our work. Even the government is benefitting from the work.
By the grace of God, we are expecting His Royal Majesty, Oba Lawrence Adebajo, the Orimolusi of Ijebu Igbo, and other dignitaries. We are also going to feast, and we’ve provided adequate security.
What advice would you convey to an upcoming butcher or an individual who would like to walk that path?
The benefits are many. This job embraces truth, and daily, one would have known his profit. Though every hand work has its challenges, we pray to God that the good should be more.
There are many successful and prominent butchers out there who had used this profession to acquire wealth and train their children.
How long does it take to know this work?
Before, our fathers will just employ and graduate any time they like, but in this era, we have changed the system and ensured that every apprentice understands the work and will at least learn for 4 years before freedom.
And of course, we ensure the boss he learned from guides them and gives the necessary support
Earlier you said, “the government also benefits from your association”.
What is the relationship between the association and the government?
We have a close relationship with the government because we are under them. The election of the butcher association’s chairman was conducted inside the Ijebu Igbo local government office and it was peaceful, free, and fair
What are the challenges in this work?
There are many challenges. The major challenge is finance, without funding, it might not flourish. However, if one hopes in God, he will triumph.
Before I became the chairman, I faced a lot of challenges. At a time, I left Ijebu Igbo for Ijebu Ode to acquire a greener pasture, but as of that time, it wasn’t my time yet. And after returning to Ijebu Igbo things started moving on well
What would you advise all butchers out there trying to make it count?
God’s time is the best. Don’t overrun your destiny, your time will come.
I want to also use this medium to invite all to our first anniversary coming up this Sunday.
