Mrs. Ngozi Uzodike, a lecturer at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra State, has given birth to septuplets (seven children); five women and two boys. On Sunday, Uzodike, who works in the Department of Business Administration, gave birth to the children at Okija’s Obijackson Women and Children Hospital.
Sadly, one of the babies, a girl, has passed away.
The lecturer’s family is looking for money to pay off their hospital bill of N19 million.
When our correspondent spoke with the new mother on Wednesday, she complained that she had not received any paychecks since she began working at the institution in December 2020.
Mr. Celestine Uzodike, her husband, pleaded with the Federal Government to assist them and pay the new mother the two years’ salary she owed.
“The babies came out prematurely at 26 weeks, and the hospital said they will need to be placed in the intensive care unit and will cost 3 million for each of them,” he stated. Six babies remain, and one of them has passed away; this is why they billed us that way.”
