President Buhari will travel to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania on Monday, January 16, to receive the “Africa Award for Strengthening Peace.”
Femi Adesina, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, said in a statement that the award would be given to the President for his leadership in promoting peace on the continent through regular interventions, advice, and a position of conciliation.
The Abu Dhabi Peace Forum established the award in 2014 to highlight innovative approaches to embracing inclusive citizenship and fostering peace, according to the presidential spokesperson. He added that the President will speak about the African Peace Process at the Third Forum of the African Conference for Peace.
He stated that Geoffrey Onyeama, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, will accompany the President; Bashir Salihi Magashi, Minister of Defense; Mohammed Monguno, adviser for national security; and the National Intelligence Agency’s Director General, Ahmed Rufai Abubakar.
