The Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People Party, and the former governor of Kano state Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso have alleged that the polls in which the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi is winning are a social media hype up by Twitter users. If you would recall that Obi won the Nextier polls a few days ago, and the new polls released by Bloomberg today puts Obi ahead of other top three Presidential candidates.
Kwankwaso argued that the election is not being determined by polls but by Nigerians on ground. He pointed out 90% of his voters across Nigeria don’t even know what Twitter is all about. He stated further that the organizers of the polls can’t take samples from only thousands of Nigerians in a population of over 200 million people. According to him, the results of the polls are not credible and realistic.
He said, ”People are just planting things that will only explode after election. And these opinion polls are being done on Telephone. Peter Obi winning these polls is a Social media hype, 90% of my supporters are not even on Twitter. They don’t know Social media.
If you want to meet them, go to market on Kano, go to Sabo in Ibadan, or go to the market in Rivers. You cannot just rely on a very small sample if you are talking about 200 million people. If you take couple of thousands, you can’t say this is the opinion of Nigeria. All of the polls that I have seen favored Peter Obi.”
