On Thursday, Nigeria and the United States agreed to return $954,000 of the looted assets that were recovered from Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, the late Bayelsa State Governor.
Mrs. Beatrice Jedy-Agba, the Solicitor General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Justice, signed on behalf of Nigeria, while Mary Beth Leonard, the US Ambassador to Nigeria, signed on behalf of her nation.
Mrs. Jedy-Agba said that President Muhammadu Buhari has instructed that the repatriated funds be used to improve health facilities in Bayelsa State at the event that was held at the Federal Ministry of Justice in Abuja.
She claimed that the $954000 came from investment and property funds in Maryland and Massachusetts, both in the United States, where Alamieyeseigha used some of the money he stole while in office.
