The candidate for president from the People’s Democratic Party, or PDP, in the recently concluded election has acknowledged that his rival from the Labour Party, Peter Obi, took their votes in the southeast and south.
Atiku said in an interview with the media on Thursday that Obi’s votes from the two geopolitical regions could not make him president of the country.
The former vice president urged Obi to have a conversation with the PDP about how to reclaim the victory from the All Progressives Congress, or APC, which is in charge.
He stated, “At the time Peter decided to join Labour Party and leave PDP, we had not even begun our primary process, so the question of whether he was going to get the ticket did not arise.”
“Yes, agreed, and it is a fact that he received our votes from the south-east and south-south, but that doesn’t make him a president, of course.
“You all know that in this country, you need votes from everywhere to be president, so Peter is welcome to talk to PDP,” I say. We are prepared to talk to him.
