The Lagos State Peoples Democratic party (PDP), Governorship Candidate, Dr Abdul-Azeez Adediran (Jandor), says the party has no official alliance with any political party and he is not stepping down for any candidate.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), INEC has scheduled elections for the House of Assembly and Governorship for March 18.
Tending to newsmen at his mission office in Ikeja on Thursday, the 45-year-old Adediran said he was in the competition to win and get a much needed refresher.
He presented himself against all odds to challenge the state’s status quo and urged residents to support his ambition.
“We are here expressing that every one of the reports that are out there purportedly being sold by certain individuals in certain quarters is only misleading.
The Lagos PDP is independent of any other political party. I have not resigned as the party’s candidate, we have not resigned, and we will not resign in the near future.
He stated, “There has not been any formal meeting between Lagos PDP and any political party as such to say that we are on a round-table discussing alliance.” He was referring to the Lagos PDP.
Adediran stated that none of the candidates, including the incumbent governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had ever conducted electioneering in the manner in which he did, traveling to meet people in a variety of communities across the state’s 245 wards.
“We have traveled throughout the entire state and have been successful in convincing every person in Lagos of our candidacy, which is a radical departure from the conventional wisdom.
He stated, “What we need Lagos residents to do in this coming election is to take a critical look at all of us running for this office and make their choice in a free and fair election.” This is what he wanted them to do in the upcoming election.
Adediran, on the other hand, said that the party did not have a problem joining an alliance; rather, it was only concerned with putting its best foot forward, which some leaders, he said, truncated.
He stated that his team had traveled throughout the state to various wards, communities, and markets to demonstrate his “can do ability” and promote his candidacy and manifesto to residents.
Adediran stated, This election is all about the people of Lagos state.
“It is about our future and electing a governor who is highly independent and knowledgeable about the state’s ins and outs.
“It’s about the candidate who has seen everything for himself. It’s past due that we elect a governor who is independent of any godfather.
“I want to make a plea to each and every one of us that this election is about giving Lagos a new lease on life. In the state, it’s about time we did something else.
The election is in our hands. We are going after it, and everyone should know that the PDP will prevail.
“We will prevail. We will provide Lagos to the Lagosians. There is no reason to be alarmed.
Adediran stated that he had done everything in his power to stand up to the political hegemony in the state on behalf of the stricken masses and that it was up to the people to use their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to break free.
