The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), has signed into law the constitutional amendment allowing states in the country to licence, generate, transmit, and distribute electricity.
Tolu Ogunlesi, the presidential media spokesperson, tweeted about this on Friday.
He wrote on Twitter, “President #MBuhari has signed into law 16 Constitution Amendment Bills.” Railways have moved from the Exclusive Legislative List to the Concurrent List as a result of this signing, while State Houses of Assembly and Judiciaries now have financial independence that is guaranteed by the Constitution.
“Another significant change: States in Nigeria can now generate, transmit, and distribute electricity in areas that are connected to the national grid thanks to the Presidential Assent. was denied pre-amendment. Through the Constitution, this is a genuine and attainable restructuring.”
