The Kano State Government has made clarifications regarding the dissolution of the five new emirates established by the previous administration, as well as the potential reinstatement of the deposed Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II.
It was gathered that in a statement issued by Bature Dawakin Tofa, Press Secretary to the state governor, no decision has been made yet regarding the new emirates. The government has not approached the state House of Assembly on this matter.
Speculations arose on Wednesday suggesting that the government had initiated steps to dissolve the emirates and reinstate Emir Sanusi II. However, the press secretary emphasised that the engagement between the executive and legislative arms of the government would be transparent and open to ensure that residents have access to information regarding significant policies and decisions of the administration.
Tofa further clarified that Governor Ganduje had only submitted a request to appoint 20 special advisers, which was duly approved by the state assembly during its inaugural session. He also mentioned that the list of nominees for commissioners is expected to be forwarded to the assembly for confirmation in the coming week.
