The senior colleague of Yomi Fabiyi, Jaiye Kuti, also known as Jayeola Monje, has been criticized by the Nollywood actor for her statement regarding veteran actors who seek financial support online.
It was gathered that Jaiye Kuti had condemned the practice of veteran actors begging for money on the internet.
Jaiye Kuti expressed her concern about the increasing number of veterans seeking help online due to their deteriorating financial and health conditions.
She expressed her disappointment at how this cry for help is negatively impacting the reputation of the Yoruba film industry.
Jaiye Kuti acknowledged that many of these actors did not plan for their future and instead squandered their earnings on temporary pleasures.
However, she clarified that she supports fundraising efforts for health issues but opposes tarnishing the image of the Yoruba film industry by seeking assistance for basic needs.
The video sparked mixed reactions online, with some supporting the actress for speaking the truth while others condemned her for speaking critically about her senior colleagues.
Yomi Fabiyi’s criticism of Jaiye Kuti
Yomi Fabiyi took to his Instagram page to criticize Jaiye Kuti for her statement.
He argued that if someone is seeking help publicly, it should not bother the actress.
Yomi Fabiyi added that if she is unable to assist the ailing actors or those facing financial difficulties, she should just let them breathe.
“If someone needs help and decides to make it public with their brand and identity, I don’t see why it should bother anyone. If you cannot find ways to compensate these veterans for their losses due to piracy and exploitation by capitalists, then let them breathe. We, the new generation actors, are a bit luckier but not necessarily better.
We simply learn to respect people’s decisions, choices, and actions. Everyone is responsible for themselves. Comparisons are meaningless. I prefer these veteran stars to seek charity rather than resorting to drug trafficking, fraud, rituals, etc., just to survive their current hardships. Perhaps this charity should be presented in a more organized manner because, to tell the truth, MANY OLD ACTORS ARE SUFFERING IN SILENCE AND ARE LIKELY TO DIE IN DISGRACE IF THEY DON’T SEEK HELP.
Let it be clear that no matter how uncomfortable or displeased you may be with someone’s actions, it is outright arrogance, a crime, and a delusional attempt to discredit such a person. Nigeria itself begs and borrows. I HATE PRETENSE AND FAKE LIVES”.
In other news, Yomi Fabiyi calls out TAMPAN President, Mr. Latin.
In a similar vein, Yomi Fabiyi also criticized his senior colleague and the president of TAMPAN, Bolaji Amusan, popularly known as Mr Latin, for his comments on veteran actors.
The President of The Theater Arts and Motion Picture Producers Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), in his defense, stated that the actors seeking financial assistance are not members of the association.
In response, Yomi Fabiyi advised him to refrain from constantly reacting to every news on social media.
He recommended that Mr. Latin appoint a Special Adviser on Media to censor his statements and prevent further mistakes.
Over the past two months, four veterans – Lalude, Iya Gbonkan, Pariolodo, and now Alapinni – have received cars and financial support from Nigerians.
