The Nigeria Police has said they have the power to burst anywhere in the country as far as they have certain information indicting criminal activities in such places.
The Nigeria Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuwiya Adejobi, said the raid by a combined team of police and personnel of Department of State Service (DSS) at the vicinity of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) was crucial.
Adejobi said the NLC was not the suspect in the operation that has generated condemnation from the labour union leadership.
In an interview on Channels TV on Monday, the Police PRO said the suspect was a terrorist who had engaged in foreign travel for 13 times.
Adejobi said, “The NLC is not a suspect here. By the time we get the man and those we have that confess to us, we know we are not chasing any shadow here. We had a target, we went for our target, we have made recoveries and we’re going to get the man.
“Whatever it goes to say because we are going to do it. You can only run, you can not hide when it comes to issues like this. All I know is that we must get him by all means.
“Whatever it is going to cost us. This man travels out of this country. Within two months, I think he made trips for more than 13 or 14 trips to some nations, to some countries.”
He explained that the information they have on the undisclosed terrorist required that the NLC must allow them to carry out their investigation.
He added that NLC would not accuse the police after the terrorist has been arrested.
“So it is somebody we have placed on under surveillance for a very long time and we went for our target. So my job here is to tell Nigerians to tell the whole world that contrary to what the NLC is saying, we are not indicting the NLC, but we have certain information that we wouldn’t want NLC to come close to us.
Let us investigate this man. Let us get to the root of this matter. Let us forget about, he went to our secretariate, he went to do this. We have powers to burst anywhere we want to burst. Once we know that criminals are hiding here or there are certain criminal items in a particular place, the powers are there for us.
“And we didn’t do it alone. Police officers were not there alone. It was a joint operation and well-coordinated. So we are inviting the leadership of NLC to even come forward. By the time they know what we have, the information we have attached, NLC will not indict the police again. They will not indict the government,” he added.
