Dafe Akpofure, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Delta State, has lambasted Senator Dino Melaye and former Presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar for their roles in destroying the party in the 2023 elections.
Akpofure’s statement comes as the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) struggles to pick up the pieces and overhaul the party’s structure.
“Dino Melaye and Atiku Abubakar’s selfish interests and actions have brought our great party to its knees,” Akpofure said.
“Their treachery and betrayal have cost us dearly, and it’s time for them to take responsibility for their actions.”
Akpofure accused Melaye of using party funds for personal gain, while Atiku’s presidential ambition was prioritized over the party’s overall success.
“The NWC is trying to rebuild and rebrand the party, but it’s an uphill task due to the damage caused by these individuals,” Akpofure added.
“We need to learn from our mistakes and move forward, but we cannot do that with traitors like Melaye and Atiku still lurking around.”
The PDP is facing an existential crisis, and Akpofure’s statement highlights the deep-seated divisions within the party.
