Services at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, were paralysed on Monday following the strike by resident doctors of the institution.
The strike is a call by the doctors for the government to effect the release of one of their members kidnapped last December.
Dr. Ganiyat Popoola, with the National Eye Centre, Kaduna, was kidnapped along with her husband.
While her husband was released recently, she is still in the den of kidnappers.
As a result of the strike, activities are paralysed with consultants attending to only emergencies. Patients on appointments were turned back, as those with pains had drugs prescribed to them.
A doctor addressing patients at the dental centre defined an emergency as “a case without doctors attention will lead to death or permanent disability.”
At the urology centre, the situation is the same as a busy unit was like a ghost town.
The Eye Centre also sent back several patients.
