A 29-year-old man, Ogunnaike Philip, has been arrested in Ogun State for allegedly killing three young girls in separate incidents across the state.
According to the Ogun State Police Command, Philip lured his victims into forests, tied them up, strangled them, and stole their phones.
Investigations revealed that Philip is a suspected serial killer who escaped from the Ibara Correctional Centre about two years ago. The victims of his crimes included 18-year-old Akinsanya Habibat, 22-year-old Abigail Dina, and 23-year-old Mary Ogunyemi.
In a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, Philip confessed to the murders and led police to the locations where the victims were killed.
In a statement, police spokesperson Omolola Odutola said Philip had led authorities to the locations where the victims’ bodies were abandoned. One of the victims, Dina, was abducted on her way to work in May 2024.
Philip reportedly strangled her and demanded a ransom of N50,000 from her family after stealing her iPhone.
Similarly, Philip and an accomplice allegedly killed Ogunyemi after luring her to a forest in July 2024. The victim was tied up and strangled, and her phone was stolen.
Philip is also suspected of killing his employer’s 18-year-old daughter, Habibat Akinsanya, in August 2024.
He allegedly kidnapped, raped, and strangled her before demanding a ransom from her parents.
The police are still investigating the case, and an accomplice remains at large.
