“Don’t Increase Rents, Governor Sanwo-Olu Warns Lagos Landlords | MarvelTvUpdates

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has urged landlords and property owners to refrain from increasing rents and property prices following the inauguration of major infrastructure projects in Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area (LGA).

Speaking on Monday during the commissioning of the Abiola/Ajayi/Ogba and Obawole/Iju-Ishaga road projects, Sanwo-Olu stated that the purpose of these developments was to bring relief to residents, not to burden them further.

“I appeal to landlords and landowners, do not increase your rents and property prices. The essence of the infrastructure built is to bring relief to the people and not burden residents,” the governor said.

Sanwo-Olu assured residents that his administration remains committed to enhancing their quality of life through impactful projects.

The newly inaugurated 643-meter road, which includes a bridge and slip roads, connects a swamp belt previously navigable only via makeshift wooden bridges that required a crossing fee.

“I am committed to addressing the long-standing problems of communities, including flooding and commuting. These projects symbolize our dedication to improving Lagosians’ daily lives,” Sanwo-Olu added.

In addition to the Ifako-Ijaiye road projects, the governor also inaugurated the rebuilt Alapere pedestrian bridge in Kosofe LGA.

The bridge, damaged by an articulated vehicle in December 2023, was reconstructed to enhance safety and accessibility for pedestrians in the area.

Sanwo-Olu also reminded residents to avoid misusing newly developed infrastructure. Addressing traditional rulers and residents, he said, “Kabiyesi, please, this bridge is not meant for dropping trash.”
