The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has firmly dismissed widespread rumors that the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) has been reintroduced under a reformed structure. In a statement released on Monday, Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi clarified that SARS has remained disbanded since its official dissolution on October 11, 2020.
Adejobi reassured the public that “the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) is not back in operation,” urging Nigerians to disregard any claims suggesting its reformation with new rules of engagement. He emphasized the importance of verifying information from trusted sources and called on citizens to refrain from spreading misinformation.
For accurate updates, Adejobi encouraged people to follow the official social media accounts of the Nigeria Police Force, including @PoliceNG on X, @ngpolice on Facebook, and @nigeriapoliceforce on Instagram.
The statement comes in response to growing public concern over reports indicating the controversial unit’s return. SARS was disbanded after the nationwide #EndSARS protests in 2020, which were sparked by widespread outrage over the unit’s history of brutality and extrajudicial killings.
