After several months of delay, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members can anticipate relief as the Federal Government has pledged to settle the outstanding payments of the revised ₦77,000 monthly allowance.
Although the government announced an increase in corps members’ stipends from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000 in September 2024, the implementation has been stalled. Despite previous assurances, the new rate has yet to take effect.
However, all serving corps members, including those in the scheme when the increment was approved, will receive backdated payments.
Minister of Youth Development Ayodele Olawande made this commitment during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
While confirming the government’s intention to pay the backlog, he did not specify when the disbursement would begin.
