The federal government has ordered immediate reopening of the Independence Bridge in Lagos, which was closed to traffic on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.
This directive for the reopening of the bridge, which was closed for planned maintenance and rehabilitation works, was given by David Umahi, the minister of works.
The ministry of works, in a statement on Wednesday night signed by Olukorede Kesha, federal controller of works in Lagos, said efforts were currently ongoing to ensure palliative works were carried out on the bridge to make it motorable.
According to the controller, necessary repair work on the bridge would be carried out at a later time.
The closure of the bridge paralysed all economic activities in Lagos Wednesday as the entire city was overrun by traffic gridlock.
Lagosians will heave a huge sigh of relief following the reopening of the bridge.
