Super Falcons forward Rasheedat Ajibade has revealed that she and her teammates are yet to receive the $100,000 reward reportedly promised to the team by the government.
“We have not received the $100,000 that was promised by the government,” Ajibade said. “Hopefully, I believe they will pay soon. A lot of people are already on my neck asking for their percentage. We are yet to receive any of the promises.”
Ajibade’s remarks come weeks after the Super Falcons’ impressive showing at a major international tournament, where their performance drew praise from fans and officials alike. The pledge was widely reported as part of the government’s commitment to reward the team for their hard work and representation of the country on the global stage.
Her comments highlight the growing frustration among players and supporters, as expectations for prompt fulfillment of such pledges remain high. Ajibade expressed optimism that the payment will be made soon, but also noted the mounting pressure from those who are entitled to a share of her promised earnings.
This development adds to the ongoing conversation about timely rewards and welfare for Nigerian athletes, an issue that has persisted across various sports in the country.
