It was football at its finest on Saturday when Ijebu Igbo Football Legends locked horns with the youthful and vibrant Elebu FC in a friendly encounter at Liberty Stadium, Oke Ado, Ibadan, Oyo State.
The match lived up to expectations, combining the Legends’ wealth of experience with the pace, agility, and sharpness of Elebu FC.
In the end, the younger side proved too strong, recording a convincing victory over the veterans.
But beyond the scoreline, the contest was rich with lessons and insights for both teams.
Speaking after the match, the President of Ijebu Igbo Football Legends, Comrade Titus Adunola, praised the brilliance of the Elebu boys, noting that their superior energy and physicality made the difference.
He described the encounter as “an eye-opener”, stressing that the Legends would take valuable lessons from the game as part of their continuous development.
On his part, team captain, Moyiwa Adebola Okunuga, popularly known as Jesca, encouraged his teammates not to dwell on the defeat.
Instead, he urged them to focus on areas of improvement revealed during the match. Jesca further assured fans that the team would come back stronger when both sides meet again in the second leg, scheduled later this year at the Abusi Edumare Mini Stadium, Oke Sopen, Ijebu Igbo.
Mr. Owoseni Ridwan Kakaki, one of the Legends, in a chat with MarvelTvUpdates, expressed his delight with the friendly encounter. He described the match as a joyful experience and called for more collaborations to strengthen unity between the youth and the community.
He added that he hopes such initiatives will continue to grow bigger, proving to the world that the spirit of sportsmanship still lives strongly within them.
The friendly may have ended in favor of Elebu FC, but for the Ijebu Igbo Legends, it was a meaningful step forward a blend of camaraderie, competition, and growth.
