The Senate has just confirmed the nomination of Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan as the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
His confirmation came after about two hours of screening in an open plenary by senators who asked a barrage of questions on what Omupitan would do differently as INEC chairman to improve the credibility of the country’s electoral process.
MarvelTvUpdates reports that the 58-year-old Amupitan, a Professor of Law, was endorsed on Thursday last week by the National Council of State following his recommendation by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He replaces Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who has since exited the service of INEC.
Amupitan, a professor of Law at the University of Jos and former Dean of its Faculty of Law, hails from Ayetoro Gbede in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State. He has over three decades of experience in academia and legal practice, specialising in constitutional, company, and corporate governance law.
