Political commentator Peter Akah has warned that Nigeria’s ruling class can only retain power in 2027 through a compromised Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and judiciary, insisting that President Tinubu cannot win a truly free and fair election.
In a video posted on his X handle, Akah was asked whether Tinubu would win in 2027. He responded by calling on him to publicly commit to free, fair, credible, and peaceful elections, arguing that anything short of that would be a disservice to Nigerian voters.
“With due respect to you sir, if there are free, fair, and credible elections conducted in Nigeria, before 12 o’clock on election day, the defeat of Tinubu and his APC minions will be announced,” Akah said in the video.
He criticized the APC for allegedly manipulating elections and suppressing voters, citing reports from Lagos during the 2023 elections where people were reportedly prevented from voting due to their ethnic appearance.
Akah noted that despite Tinubu’s long tenure as Lagos governor, popularity alone would not secure victory in a transparent election.
“The only hope and confidence is in a compromised judiciary and a compromised INEC,” he added, questioning why Tinubu has not publicly committed to transparent elections.
Akah urged Nigerians to insist that their votes count and called for vigilance ahead of the 2027 elections to protect the democratic process.
“Nigeria must put pressure on INEC. Leave all this talk of grandstanding. Do free and fair elections. Then we know who is popular,” he said.
His statement has ignited debate online, with supporters praising his direct critique of the ruling class, while critics accuse him of stoking political tension.
The only hope of the current ruling class to retain power is a Compromised INEC and JUDICIARY ❗️
If President Tinubu is confident in His popularity he should come out and publicly commit to Free, Fair, Credible and Peaceful Elections ❗️
Anything short of that, Nigerians Must… pic.twitter.com/ScwLB21ia7
