Kebbi State was thrown into mourning and shock following a violent terrorist attack on Maga Comprehensive Girls Secondary School, where 25 female students were abducted, and one staff member was killed during the incident.
The attack, which occurred in the early hours of the morning, saw heavily armed terrorists storm the school premises, causing panic among students and staff. Community members reported hearing sporadic gunshots as the attackers forced their way into the hostels before escaping with the girls.
Confirming the incident, officials of the Kebbi State Government described the kidnapping as a tragic and unacceptable act of violence against innocent children seeking education. They assured parents and residents that the state is working closely with security agencies to ensure the safe return of the abducted students.
The Kebbi State Police Command also released a statement, revealing that security operatives have launched a full-scale search operation. The police said they are currently tracking the bandits’ escape routes and combing surrounding forests in an intensified rescue mission.
“Our personnel are pursuing the terrorists and exploring all possible routes to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted students,” the police spokesperson said. “We remain committed to protecting the lives and property of citizens across Kebbi State.”
The tragic incident has sparked widespread concern and renewed calls for improved security in schools across northern Nigeria, where attacks on educational institutions have become increasingly frequent.
Parents of the abducted girls are appealing for swift and decisive action, while civil society groups and education advocates are urging the government to bolster surveillance, response mechanisms, and community policing strategies.
As rescue efforts continue, the Kebbi State Government has called for calm and urged the public to support ongoing security operations aimed at ensuring the safe return of the students.
