President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed that police officers currently assigned to VIP protection be withdrawn and redeployed to focus on core policing duties. VIPs seeking protection will now request personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
The directive, issued during a security meeting with service chiefs and the DSS, aims to increase police presence in communities, particularly in remote areas facing security challenges.
Tinubu has also approved the recruitment of 30,000 additional officers and is collaborating with states to upgrade police training facilities nationwide.
The meeting was attended by Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu; Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke; Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun; and DSS Director-General Tosin Adeola Ajayi.
