The Ogun State High Court has nullified the suspension and impeachment of the Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government, Hon. Wale Adedayo.
Reacting to the judgment, Adedayo expressed gratitude to God and thanked friends and supporters who stood by him throughout the legal battle, describing the ruling as a victory for truth and justice.
Adedayo, who was earlier suspended and later impeached by the local legislative council, challenged the actions in court, maintaining that due process was not followed.
With the court’s decision, he has now been reinstated as the substantive Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government. The ruling has generated widespread reactions within Ogun State’s political landscape, with many describing it as a strong affirmation of judicial independence in local governance.
Also Ogun State High Court has dismissed all claims made by Hon. Wale Adedayo against Governor Dapo Abiodun, ruling that the governor was not responsible for Adedayo’s suspension as Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government.
Justice Catherine Ogunsanya delivered the judgment in case HCJ/53/2025, where Adedayo had accused the governor of orchestrating his suspension.
The court explained that a local government is “a separate entity distinct from the Governor” and has its own legal powers to act, sue, or be sued.
Adedayo also claimed that the Secretary to the State Government wrote a petition to the police against him based on the governor’s instructions, allegedly due to political differences. But the judge said she could not find any nexus between the petition and any political dispute. She agreed with the governor’s lawyer, Adekunle Manual, that there was “no convincing evidence” showing the governor ordered the petition.
The court noted that although only the governor could legally suspend Adedayo for three months, a step he never took Adedayo’s tenure had already expired, so he could not be returned to office.
Since he did not ask for unpaid salary, the court could not award it.
However, the judge awarded N30m in general damages to Adedayo.
