The Ijebu North Local Government has announced a ban on night carnivals during the forthcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations, citing the need to maintain peace, public safety, and order across the local government area.
According to a public notice released by the Peace and Security Committee of Ijebu North Local Government (INLG), all carnival and festive activities must strictly take place between 7:00am and 7:00pm. Any form of celebration or carnival held outside these approved hours will not be tolerated.
The committee further warned against the blocking of roads for extortion or illegal collection of money, describing such acts as unlawful and a threat to public peace and free movement. Security agencies have been directed to enforce compliance and deal decisively with defaulters.
Residents, community leaders, youth groups, and event organizers are therefore advised to cooperate with authorities and adhere strictly to the guidelines in the interest of safety and harmony during the festive period.
The Peace and Security Committee emphasized that the measures are preventive, aimed at ensuring a peaceful celebration for all residents while curbing activities that could lead to insecurity.
Members of the public are encouraged to report any violations to the appropriate authorities.
