After the youths spoke out and voiced their opposition to the restrictions imposed by the government and security agencies, the Ijebu North Local Government Peace and Security Committee has again announced that all carnivals, parties and social events in the area must end by 8pm, while commercial motorcycle (okada) operations remain banned from 10pm.
The committee also reminded the public that riding okada without proper plate numbers is still not allowed.
These decisions were restated during a Peace and Security meeting held on Tuesday at the Ijebu North Local Government Secretariat in Ijebu-Igbo.
Speaking at the meeting, the Chairman of Ijebu North Local Government, Hon. Bolaji Odusanya, called on residents to obey the security rules, stressing that all social gatherings must close by 8pm until further notice.
The committee noted that keeping the area safe is the responsibility of both the government and the people. It also assured residents that the local government and security agencies are fully committed to protecting lives, property and businesses in Ijebu North.
Security agencies, including Amotekun operatives, promised to continue enforcing the rules, especially by arresting okada riders who hide their faces or alter their motorcycle plate numbers.
However, the chairman approved a temporary relaxation of the night party ban on December 24 (Christmas Eve) and December 31 (New Year’s Eve) after the committee agreed to the decision.
