In a significant boost to grassroots governance, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun, on Tuesday handed over brand-new official vehicles to all the Local Government (LG) chairmen across the state.
The presentation, which took place at the state capital, underscores the Abiodun administration’s commitment to strengthening local government administration and improving service delivery at the grassroots level. The governor noted that the provision of official vehicles would enhance the mobility, efficiency, and effectiveness of council chairmen in the discharge of their duties.
Governor Abiodun emphasized that local governments remain a critical tier of government, being the closest to the people, and must be adequately equipped to meet the developmental needs of their communities. He charged the chairmen to use the vehicles strictly for official purposes and to ensure they translate the gesture into tangible dividends of democracy for residents in their respective local government areas.

According to the governor, the initiative is part of his administration’s broader agenda to reposition governance structures, promote accountability, and support policies that directly impact the lives of the people at the grassroots.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Ogun State chapter, expressed appreciation to the governor for the gesture, describing it as timely and motivating. The LG chairmen pledged their continued loyalty and commitment to the policies and programmes of the state government, assuring that the vehicles would be used judiciously to serve the people better.
The handover ceremony attracted top government officials, party leaders, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders, further highlighting the administration’s focus on collaboration and inclusive governance across all levels in Ogun State.
