The Ogun State Police Command has arraigned a 45-year-old motorist, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, before the Sagamu Magistrate Court over a fatal road traffic accident that claimed the lives of two persons.
According to the charge sheet, the incident occurred on December 29, 2025, at about 11:00 p.m., along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, Makun, Sagamu, within the jurisdiction of the Sagamu Magisterial District.
Police alleged that the defendant drove a Lexus 570 Jeep with registration number Lagos KRD 850 HN in a reckless and negligent manner on a public highway, without due care and attention to other road users. The alleged act reportedly resulted in a fatal accident that led to the deaths of Latif Ayodele and Sina Damilola, both identified as boxers.
The prosecution further stated that the defendant drove at a dangerous speed and failed to properly consider the condition of the road and other users, actions said to be contrary to provisions of the Federal Highway Act, Cap F:135, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, as applicable in Ogun State.
In an additional count, the defendant was accused of causing damage to the Lexus vehicle as a result of careless driving, an offence also punishable under the same law.
The case was brought before the court by Anthony Olufemi Joshua, a police officer attached to the State Monitoring Unit, Ibara, Abeokuta.
At the time of filing this report, the court proceedings were ongoing, with details of plea, bail conditions, and adjournment yet to be made public.
The police reiterated their call for motorists to drive responsibly and obey traffic regulations to prevent avoidable loss of lives on Nigerian highways.
The court granted the defendant bail in the sum of N5million, with four sureties, comprising two family members and two non-family members.
