U.S. President Donald Trump has said that thousands of Christians have been killed in Nigeria by Islamic terrorists, describing the violence as genocide and vowing tougher action against the perpetrators.
ump made the remarks while speaking on ongoing insecurity in Nigeria, where armed groups have continued to carry out deadly attacks and mass abductions targeting Christian communities.
In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), Trump said terrorist groups operating in Nigeria have killed “thousands and thousands of Christians” and questioned why the scale of the violence has not drawn stronger international outrage.
He framed the attacks as deliberate and systematic, warning that the situation represents a serious humanitarian and security crisis.
Trump also said those responsible for the killings are being confronted and would face renewed force. “We will hit them very hard again,” he said, signalling continued or intensified military pressure against terror groups involved in attacks on civilians.
His comments suggest a tougher posture toward extremist violence affecting religious communities.
The remarks come amid persistent reports of killings and mass abductions in northern Nigeria, including Kaduna State, where armed groups have repeatedly targeted Christian villages and worshippers.
Nigeria has for years struggled with insurgency, banditry, and terror-related violence, leading to thousands of deaths and widespread displacement, as security challenges continue to strain affected communities.
