Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State — The Oluomo of Ijebu-Igbo, Alhaji Chief Ismail Lawal Abiodun Abinugbola, has petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS) over what he described as an alleged attempt by some police officers to falsely associate him with a planned protest in the town.
In a letter reportedly written by Alhaji Chief Ismail Olawale Lawal Abinugbola and addressed to the DSS, concerns were raised about claims allegedly being circulated within the Ijebu-Igbo Police Division. The petition specifically mentioned Officer Teju and Inspector Wahab, who were accused of spreading information suggesting that the Oluomo of Ijebu Igbo intends to destabilize the peace of the community through protest or unrest.
The petitioners firmly denied the allegations, stating that Alhaji Chief Lawal Abinugbola has no knowledge of, nor involvement in, any planned protest or activity capable of disrupting public peace in Ijebu-Igbo.
They emphasized that as a former Student Union President and a recognized community leader, the Oluomo of Ijebu Igbo understands lawful processes and respects due procedure. According to the letter, if any civic engagement were ever to be organized, the appropriate authorities would be properly informed in line with the law.
The statement described the alleged attempt to link his name with activities that could cause tension as disturbing and unnecessary, especially in a town known for its relative peace.
The petition further called for professional, transparent, and community-oriented policing in Ijebu-Igbo, stressing that security operations should promote unity and public confidence rather than fear or misinformation.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the authorities mentioned in the petition.
