A petition dated 19 January 2026 has been submitted to the Inspector-General of Police in Abuja by Jurigate Consultants on behalf of Alhaji Chief Abiodun Olawale Lawal Abinugbola, the Oluomo of Ijebu-Igbo and Agbesinga Adinni of Ijebu Land.
In the petition, Alhaji Chief Abinugbola alleged that officers of the Ijebu-Igbo Police Division including the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Akolade Oladejo, alongside other named officers were involved in acts ranging from unlawful entry and intimidation to harassment, assault, criminal trespass, extortion, and threats to life. The petitioner called on the Inspector-General to order a full investigation and apply necessary disciplinary measures where appropriate.
However, in a fact-finding interview conducted by Oracle of Peace, CSP Oladejo firmly denied the allegations. He stated that he has never met the petitioner personally and noted that only two matters concerning the individual were officially recorded at the division, both of which he said were handled in accordance with the law.
The DPO described the claims as unfounded and challenged the petitioner to provide credible evidence to substantiate the accusations. He further explained that tactical units such as SWAT, Anti-Kidnapping, and Anti-Cultism squads operate independently within the area and carry out their lawful responsibilities separate from his command.
Meanwhile, the Orimolusi of Ijebu‑Igbo is reportedly making efforts to mediate and ease tensions surrounding the matter.
According to information gathered by Oracle of Peace, the police maintain that there is no substantial evidence supporting the claims outlined in the petition. The development continues to generate reactions within the community as stakeholders await further action from the appropriate authorities.
