At least 15 people have been killed in terrorists attack on Ojatele community in Apa Local Government Area of Benue State, with several others injured and some still missing.
The attack happened on Friday afternoon when Fulani terrorists stormed the village.
Residents say the terrorists targeted people who were returning from their cashew farms.
Among those killed were women and children.
A community member who spoke on condition of anonymity said the terrorists opened fire without warning.
Bodies were left on paths leading back to the village, and survivors described scenes of chaos as people tried to run for safety.
“So far we have recovered about 15 corpses and 11 other people who were injured,” one resident told reporters.
“We have taken the injured to the hospital in Ugbokpo, the headquarters of Apa LGA.”
Another resident, Abu Abel, confirmed the details.
It was herdsmen that attacked the community this afternoon and killed over 15 persons,” he said.
The Apa Local Government chairman, Adams Ochega, acknowledged the incident but said he was still waiting for a full report from security agencies and community leaders.
The community now lies deserted. Many families have fled to nearby areas, leaving homes empty and farms unattended.
No security forces arrived at the scene immediately after the attack, residents said.
This latest violence comes amid a long pattern of clashes in Benue State over land and grazing routes.
Attacks like this have displaced thousands and left communities in fear.
Survivors and local leaders have called for urgent government action to stop the killings and provide protection for farmers and villagers in the area.
