Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have teargassed students who were protesting the alleged arrest of their colleagues at Oru-Ijebu.
The Ogun State Police have explained what happened during a protest by some students at the Oru-Ijebu Police Station on Saturday, March 28, 2026.
In a statement by the Police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the students gathered at the station because they believed some of their fellow students had been arrested. However, the Divisional Police Officer said there was no student in custody at the station.
According to the police, the situation became tense when the students forced their way into the station and started throwing stones and bottles, which could have injured officers and damaged property.
The police said they called for backup and used teargas to scatter the crowd and bring the situation under control. Peace has now returned to the area.
The command advised the public, especially students, to express their concerns peacefully and follow the law. It also assured everyone that it remains committed to protecting lives and property.
