The Ogun State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has become the latest state to endorse former NURTW Lagos State Council Chairman Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya (aka MC Oluomo), for the union’s National President position.
Its chairman, Alhaji Mustapha Ismail (aka Yaro Ade) said Akinsanya is more desirous of the union’s top position going by his antecedents.
With Ogun State Council endorsement, Akinsanya is poised to be elected as the National President of the NURTW.
Three other states where the union is in operation Lagos, Ondo and Ekiti have earlier thrown their support behind Akinsanya for the position.
Alhaji Ismail said it would be ungrateful for union members in Ogun State not to back Akinsanya’s ambition.
“He has done a lot to ensure the NURTW returns in Ogun State. He was with us all through the challenging period. It is only normal to return his good gesture with our support,” he said.
Alhaji Ismail said he has high regard for the other contestant for the position, Alhaji Tajudeen Agbede, but Akinsanya has played a big role in deserving the state union’s endorsement.
“The office of the National President of the NURTW has been zoned to the Southwest. I’m not in doubt that all the four states where the union is operating will queue behind Akinsanya,” he said.
Last week, the Ekiti State Council at the emergency meeting held with state officers and Branch/Zonal Chairmen, endorsed Akinsanya for the union’s President.
The Ekiti State Council, led by Chief Joseph Falope, praised Akinsaya’s leadership traits, dedication, loyalty, and commitment to public service.
Falope said his endorsement for the union’s top position was based on his ability to communicate respectfully with people of all ages and backgrounds.
According to him, the Ekiti State Council is comfortable with the leadership acumen of Akinsanya.
Chairman of Ondo State Council Odudu Ademola and members also endorsed the candidacy of Akinsanya for National President of the union at the state council Secretariat in Akure, Ondo state.
Speaking after an emergency meeting of the State officers and Branch Chairmen, Ademola noted that due to Akinsanya’s leadership quality that stands him out as a “worthy choice for the exalted and prestigious position”, the entire officers and members of the union in Ondo state had resolved to endorse him.
He added that with him in charge of NURTW at the national level, there is going to be improvements in the union.
