The chairman of Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission, OGSIEC, Barr. Babatunde Osibodu has disclosed that eligible voters in the coming November 16th Local Government Election can make use of their Passport, driving licence, NIN cards and Government issues identity cards to vote.
Osibodu made this disclosure on Tuesday during a Media Parliament organized by Nigeria Union Journalists, Ogun State Council held at the NUJ Secretariat Hall, Iwe- Iroyin, Abeokuta.
He stated that the commission would accept the alternatives means of identification at the Polling Booths in the event that an eligible voter could not find his or her INEC voter’s card as result of misplacement or relocation within the state.
Also speaking on the level of preparation of the commission to conduct a free, fair and credible election, Osibodu informed that 20 electoral officers and 25 assistant electoral officers have been appointed.
While the process of recruitment of 236 returning officers, 5,042 Presiding officers, 15,000 Poll Clerks/orderlies is in progress by the commission.
Osibodu while charging Journalists to ask the candidates about their background, pedigree, their programs and the benefits for the people at the Local Government level, said “I know that you Journalists are up to the task, I enjoin you to ask the Politicians the questions so that the people can benefit from the process we are undergoing”.
He also disclosed that eight Political Parties have been registered and just two have submitted the complete names of their candidates.
The Ogsiec boss, however, urged the political parties to assign party agents to every polling booth during the elections.
