Finnish Court Sentences Self-Proclaimed IPOB Leader Simon Ekpa to Six Years for Terrorism

The Päijät-Häme District Court in Finland has sentenced Simon Ekpa, a pro-Biafra agitator, to six years in prison after finding him guilty of terrorism-related offences.
The ruling, delivered on Monday, found Ekpa guilty of inciting terrorism and participating in the activities of a terrorist group.
According to Yle, a Finnish newspaper, the court said Ekpa had used his “significant social media following” to fuel unrest in the South-East between August 2021 and November 2024.
In a unanimous decision, the three-member panel of judges described him as an influential figure within a militant separatist movement seeking to establish a Biafra state from Nigeria.
The court further held that Ekpa supplied “weapons, explosives, and ammunition through his network of contacts in the region” and encouraged his followers on social media platform X to commit crimes in Nigeria.
Apart from terrorism charges, Ekpa was also convicted of aggravated tax fraud and violating provisions of the Attorneys Act.
