Nigerian music superstar Davido is once again in the spotlight, but this time over claims by a teenage girl, Aanu Labinjoh, who is calling on him to conduct a DNA test to confirm paternity and end years of emotional uncertainty.
The story dates back to 2013, when 21-year-old Davido allegedly impregnated Ayotomode “Ayo” Labinjoh, then 26, in Ibadan after meeting him during a show. According to Ayo, they met and had intercourse twice—once at a club and another time after Gbenga Adeyinka’s Easter show. That same year, Davido was reportedly juggling relationships with three women who claimed to be pregnant for him.
Ayo said that when she discovered she was pregnant, Davido, who preferred to call her Enitan, asked her to keep the pregnancy. The following day, he blocked her on BBM, leaving her unable to contact him throughout her pregnancy.
After giving birth, Ayo sent Davido pictures of the baby, and he reportedly named the child Veronica, after his mother. When asked what she wanted from him, Ayo said she wanted him to take responsibility. The next day, Davido blocked her again on BBM. Eventually, the child was named Aanuoluwapo, though she was later referred to as Vero in private communication.
A year later, Ayo’s mother reached out to Davido’s father to seek acknowledgment, but her attempts were ignored. Their lawyer intervened, and Davido invited them over, paying ₦65,000 each for three tests. However, only the blood samples of Davido and the baby were collected.
The test, conducted at Clina-Lancet Laboratories, Victoria Island, returned results within seven days, showing Davido was not Aanu’s biological father. Ayo claimed the result was falsified, alleging that she witnessed Davido bribing the doctor, Dr. Alex Sogbola, despite his father having already paid for the tests. She argued that what was done was a blood test, not a proper DNA test.
Davido’s manager, Asa Asika, dismissed the claims as “fake and lies,” while Davido himself tweeted:
“This one nah real Yahoo Girl no Laptop. Upon finding out the test results were negative. Out of pity we still give dem money. Years later dem no gree say nah my own. Chai money good o. 2 years ago person wey you never see for your life, bring pikin say na your own, you take paternity test, it came out negative.”
Since then, Aanu has been labeled “Davido’s secret daughter.” The story resurfaced this week as Aanu, now a teenager, released an emotional letter addressing Davido. She described years of bullying and isolation because no one believed her claims and is now requesting a DNA test as she transitions into adulthood.
In response, Davido stated that he does not know Ayo, has never met her mother, and that five DNA tests conducted by both parties all came back negative. He also suggested that Ayo may face legal consequences for her claims.
Davido is known to have a confirmed eldest daughter, Imade Adeleke, aged 10, with controversial socialite Sophia Momodu. Until Ayo provides conclusive evidence beyond reasonable doubt, Davido maintains that the claims regarding Aanu remain unproven.
The unfolding drama has captured public attention, with many following the debate online as Aanu seeks closure over her identity.
