In a major political development, tormer Governor ot Ogun State, Senator, Ibikunle Amosun, Is set to formally declare his intention to return to the Senate, representing Ogun Central Senatorial District.
The declaration is scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday, coinciding with the celebrations of his birthday.
Sources within the Senator’s campaign organisation confirm that substantial mobilisation efforts have already been disbursed to shore up support ahead of the announcement.
A total of N500,000 has been distributed to each ward across the Ogun Central senatorial district to energise supporters and ensure a massive turnout for the declaration event.
Senator Amosun, who previously served two terms as Governor (2011-2019) and is seeking a return to the upper legislative chamber under the banner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) but he will remain in the All Progressives Congress (APC) pending the time.
The move is part of a coordinated exit alongside his preferred governorship aspirant, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Ishola, who currently also belongs to the APC. The duo is expected to soon formally join the ADC to contest the Senate and governorship seats respectively in Ogun State.
A close aide to the former governor stated, “The Senator is ready to continue his service and impactful representation. Tomorrow’s birthday celebration will be a dual event of thanksgiving and political purpose.”
This move signals an intensification of political activities in Ogun State as the election season approaches.
