Four suspected bandits were arrested today near Akure Airport, Ondo State, following a coordinated security operation by aviation and local security agencies.
The suspects were spotted near the airport perimeter close to the Eleyewo community, prompting an immediate joint response from FAAN’s Aviation Security (AVSEC), the Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, and local security groups.
During the operation, some individuals tried to flee, but four were apprehended and handed over to the Nigeria Police Force Area Command for further investigation.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) praised the swift teamwork between aviation security personnel, the military, police, Amotekun, and community vigilantes. FAAN said this incident highlights the need for stronger airport perimeter protection.
To enhance security, the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Aviation and with support from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has begun installing modern perimeter fencing and improved security infrastructure at airports across the country.
FAAN reassured travelers and local communities that it remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all airport facilities nationwide.
