— Awa Ijebu, Ogun State
The ongoing protest in Awa Ijebu entered its second day on Wednesday as youths intensified their demands for intervention from the traditional ruler, HRM Oba Habib Amos Awobajo, the Limeri of Awa-Ijebu, over issues affecting the community.
The protest ground, which remained occupied throughout the night, was active again early Wednesday morning as demonstrators returned with renewed determination. The youths maintained an organized presence, reiterating the concerns that first brought them together on Tuesday evening and directing their demands specifically to the monarch.
By midday, the atmosphere had become noticeably more tense as the number of protesters increased. Demonstrators expressed growing frustration over what they described as a lack of engagement from the palace and relevant authorities since the protest began.
More residents joined the gathering during the day, swelling the crowd and amplifying calls for action. Protesters carried placards demanding the release of individuals they described as innocent, while also voicing opposition to the activities of the alleged “Regbe-Regbe” group. Other demands included calls against unlawful land possession and what they described as unlawful arrests within the community.
Chants echoed across the protest ground as participants insisted that their concerns must be addressed. Despite heightened emotions, organizers continued efforts to ensure the demonstration remained peaceful and orderly.
As of the time of filing this report, no official response had been announced by the palace or relevant authorities. Protest leaders maintained that the demonstration would continue until Oba Abib Awobajo or appropriate representatives engage directly with the protesters and address their grievances.
With tensions rising and the protest entering a crucial stage, residents are calling for dialogue and peaceful resolution to prevent further escalation of the situation.
