Court Dismisses Suit Seeking Fresh Investigation Into Mohbad’s Death

The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a case seeking to compel the Nigeria Police Force to reopen its investigation into the death of Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
The case was filed by the Registered Trustees of Break the Silence Foundation.
The foundation argued that the earlier police investigation did not properly examine some people connected to the late singer, including his wife, father and brother.
However, delivering his judgment, Justice James Omotosho said the foundation failed to provide enough evidence to prove that the previous investigation was inadequate.
The judge noted that the foundation did not present the earlier police investigation report to support its claims. The court subsequently dismissed the suit.
Justice Omotosho also warned lawyers against discussing ongoing court cases through media interviews and social media platforms. He said such actions could amount to professional misconduct.
Mohbad died in Lagos on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27. His death has remained a major public issue, with many Nigerians continuing to demand answers over the circumstances surrounding his death.
Meanwhile, social media activist VeryDarkBlackMan has continued to campaign for “Justice for Mohbad” and has made public allegations about the possible involvement of the singer’s wife in events surrounding his death. These allegations remain claims and have not been established as facts by the court.
