PDP Gathering Disrupted in Abeokuta as Suspected APC Thugs Allegedly Attack Supporters

A political gathering organised by supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, was reportedly disrupted on Monday following an alleged attack by suspected political thugs.
According to eyewitness accounts, PDP supporters had gathered at the venue to welcome party candidates when the incident occurred. The attackers were alleged to have arrived at the location and disrupted the gathering, causing people to flee for safety.
Reports said chairs and canopies at the venue were damaged during the disturbance, while some supporters reportedly sustained injuries in the process of escaping.
The PDP governorship candidate, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, and the party’s Ogun Central senatorial candidate, Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo, were reportedly on their way to the venue when the situation became tense. They were said to have been unable to proceed to the location because of security concerns.
The identity and political affiliation of those responsible for the alleged attack had not been independently established as of the time of filing this report. However, eyewitnesses alleged that the attackers were supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The incident comes amid heightened political activities in Ogun State ahead of the 2027 general elections. The PDP and APC have recently exchanged accusations over incidents involving their supporters and campaign activities in the state.
A PDP source who spoke on condition of anonymity condemned the incident and called on security agencies to protect political gatherings and ensure that all parties are allowed to conduct their activities peacefully.
The source said political disagreements should not result in violence or the destruction of property.
As of the time of publication, there was no official statement from the Ogun State Police Command confirming the reported attack or identifying those responsible.
