Agbolade Olayemi Leads Ijebu Igbo Online Assembly Poll with 56 Votes
An online poll organised in the Concerned Ijebu Igbo Youths WhatsApp group to test the popularity of candidates contesting the Ijebu Igbo State House of Assembly seat has ended, with Agbolade Olayemi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) recording the highest number of votes.
According to the results announced by the organisers, Olayemi polled 56 votes, followed by Idris Toluwalase of the New Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) with 33 votes.
Tayo Hamzat of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) received 21 votes, while Bosun Ipaye of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 11 votes.
Results of the Online Poll:
- Agbolade Olayemi (PDP) — 56 votes
- Idris Toluwalase (NDC) — 33 votes
- Tayo Hamzat (ADC) — 21 votes
- Bosun Ipaye (APC) — 11 votes
The announcement was made in a light-hearted, election-themed statement signed by Obakese, described as the “INEC Chairman” of the Concerned Ijebu Igbo Youths Online Poll.
The organisers also jokingly stated that a “Certificate of Return” would be presented to Olayemi at the “INEC office” the following day, while adding that any candidate or supporter dissatisfied with the outcome could challenge the result at the appropriate court.
The poll, however, is an online popularity exercise and not an official election conducted or recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The exercise is part of ongoing public conversations around the candidates and the forthcoming political contest in Ijebu Igbo, with the organisers encouraging citizens to pay attention to the candidates, their communication, character, programmes and capacity to serve.
This keeps the “cruise”/playful angle while making it clear that the poll is not an official INEC election or result.
