Otunba Olalekan Simon Oluwole, the Otunba Atunluto of Ilugun North Kingdom, has called for greater attention to road repairs and infrastructure development in Ijebu-Igbo and its surrounding communities.
He made the call in the first edition of his public awareness campaign titled “The Ijebu-Igbo We Dream Of”, which focuses on community development and encourages residents to speak up about the challenges affecting their areas.
The first edition, held on Tuesday, October 27, focuses on roads and infrastructure, with particular attention to the difficulties farmers face when transporting their farm produce to markets.
According to the campaign message, poor road conditions make it difficult for farmers to move their goods, affect local businesses and increase the burden on families. It stressed that farmers who spend months working on their farms deserve good roads to transport their produce without unnecessary hardship.
The message also noted that road development is a shared responsibility that requires the attention of leaders, residents and other stakeholders.
The campaign, which is expected to run for 10 weeks, will highlight development challenges across Ijebu-Igbo communities, discuss possible solutions and encourage public participation in shaping the area’s future.
As part of the first edition, residents were asked to identify roads in their communities that require urgent repairs. They were also encouraged to mention their communities, share pictures of affected roads and explain the changes they would like to see.
The initiative further called on residents to vote wisely and assess political leaders based on competence, integrity, accountability and commitment to genuine community development.
The campaign message was also presented in Yoruba as “ÌJẸ̀BÚ-IGBÓ TÍ A Ń LÁ ÀLÁ RẸ̀”, reflecting the vision of a better Ijebu-Igbo built through collective effort and responsible leadership.
The initiative aims to create a platform where community members can share their experiences, raise concerns and contribute ideas towards solving local problems.
It concluded with a call for collective action, stressing that the Ijebu-Igbo of everyone’s dreams can only be achieved through the right choices, responsible leadership and a shared commitment to development.
